Who is the writer of “The Writer’s Desk”?
My name is Alyssa Chartrand. I am a 24-year-old Communication graduate who previously embarked on a 3-year mission to acquire my bachelor’s degree. I attended Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana, where I achieved a concentration in Multimedia Journalism and minors in Pastoral Leadership and Writing. Today, I serve as a full-time scribe for an eye care company and a part-time writer/blogger.
I am highly active on social media. If you wish to contact me (and to get the latest updates on “The Writer’s Desk”), feel free to tweet me or follow me @AlyssaChartran2 or email me at chartrandak@gmail.com.

Why was “The Writer’s Desk” Built?
“The Writer’s Desk” originally served as a blog series posted every Sunday during the 2020 academic school year. It served as a virtual advice column for college students, especially Marian University students. However, my post-graduate hope is that writers of all ages, backgrounds, and professions will come to love and be encouraged by this blog. It is for lovers of language, stories/narratives, and written discourse. I report on a variety of writing-worthy endeavors and trends. I intend to share helpful tips, stories, and ideas about the integration of writing in the modern world and in everyday life.
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That is why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.”
— Octavia E. Butler
